René van Doorn (Studio Van Doorn), interior architect based in London and Amsterdam dedicated to spatial design, interior design, exhibition design, furniture and light design, worked with product designer and artist Esther Derkx to create four different spherical designs from dismanteled streetlights that had been replaced by LED models. This inspired them to create sustainable interior lighting fixtures. The streetlights are re-assembled, sanded or painted in a color without removing the patina, which retains the link to the past. The history of the street light remains, and contributes to the new form.
